Nowadays the Royal Family play a very important role in the country. In Britain there were certain kings for example King Henry VIII. Many people remember him only because he had six wives and was very important monarch. Under him Britain became independent of the Roman Catholic Church.

Henry’s daughter, Elizabeth. She never married. She is known for saying: “I know I have the body of a week and feeble woman, but I have the heart and stomach of a king”. During her reign England became very important in politics, the Spanish Armada was defeated.

Queen Victoria came to the throne as a young woman. She ruled for the longest period in the English history for 64 years. Victoria married a German, Prince Albert, but he died at the age of 42. They had nine children – five sons and four daughters. They had three places: Monument, Royal Albert Hall and V&A Museum. She developed empire with a lot of colonies.
